Crane Injury Lawyer - NYC (DandALaw.com‎)

Crane Accidents

Cranes are among the most hazardous pieces of equipment used in construction. In New York City, where cranes are used heavily, the risk of injury from a crane accident is particularly high. Because cranes reach great heights and the loads they carry are extremely heavy, people injured in crane accidents frequently suffer serious injuries and many are fatal.
The attorneys at Dansker & Aspromonte are dedicated to providing injured construction workers and their loved ones with the highest level of service. We will fight to make sure you receive the maximum compensation for your crane accident injuries. We are experienced construction lawyers who have helped our clients recover hundreds of millions.

Causes of Construction Crane Injuries
There are many causes of crane accidents in New York. OSHA has strict regulations governing the safe operations of cranes. Most crane accidents happen when these safety measures are not enforced at the construction site, or appropriate crane safety techniques are not taught.
At the New York City firm of Dansker & Aspromonte, we represent individuals and families who were seriously injured or killed in the crane accidents caused by:

Falling — strong winds, safety harness failures or unguarded floor access panels
Electrocution — While most cranes contain insulated boom cages and lines to protect workers from electrical current, if the hook, boom, jib tie or any other part of the crane touches a live wire, workers can be electrocuted.
Tipping over — Tipping over is a serious hazard for mobile cranes. If the crane operator swings the crane too quickly or attempts to lift a load beyond the crane’s capacity, the crane could tip. In addition, soft ground, from heavy rains or other conditions may also destabilize the crane, making a tip-over accident more likely.
Boom collapse — Booms on cranes are likely to collapse if the crane is overloaded or is not blocked correctly. Blocking materials made out of wood or metal are designed to help stabilize and balance loads. If a crane attempts to lift a load that exceeds its weight limits, the boom is also subject to collapse.
Rigging failure — Poorly rigged or insufficient rigging can compromise a load, causing it to slip or break free.
Falling loads — Another danger of carrying a load beyond the crane’s capacity is chain failure. Even if the load is an appropriate size, inadequate hoist lines could cause the chain to snap.
Inadequate maintenance — Cranes are supposed to be inspected very year, but because most cranes, including mobile cranes, are rented, the inspection history may not be known. Rust, cracks, stress fractures on the metal may not be immediately visible.
Poor crane assembly — To function properly, a crane must be assembled properly. Tower cranes are composed of segments that are added in pieces. Substituting parts or not using enough parts can compromise the integrity of the overall structure.
